MAF faculty member Emily Diamond is the lead author of a new paper published in a special issue on survey research in the journal Environmental Politics. The paper, Does providing scientific information affect climate change and GMO policy preferences in the mass public? Insights from survey experiments in Germany and the United States, finds that individuals do adjust their policy preferences in response to scientific information on environmental issues. These effects occur even among individuals who report low levels of trust in science, in both Germany and the United States. The paper suggests that the provision of scientific information to the public can effectively influence attitudes towards environmental issues like climate change, resulting in public opinion more closely aligned with the scientific consensus.
