MAF 280, Introduction to Climatology

Required for : Elective

Typical Semester : Fall

Typically Taught By : Ambarish Karmalkar

Introduces the physical mechanisms that govern Earth’s climate system, including atmospheric and oceanic circulation, energy and moisture balance, and weather and climate variability.

This course introduces students to the core physical principles and processes that explain global and regional climate change. It examines the general circulation of the ocean and atmosphere, the influence of the land surface, and how these factors shape weather patterns and climate variability. The course also builds a strong physical science foundation for understanding climate change policy, as well as strategies for adaptation and mitigation.
