Explores tourism development and sustainability in environmental and coastal contexts.
This course explores many aspects of Tourism and Ecotourism around the world, and in particular how they relate to coastal issues, and how they intersect with issues of environmental and social sustainability, and community well-being. We analyze tourism as a facet of Sustainable Development and the Blue Economy, as well as how tourism and ecotourism can have adverse effects on people and the environment. We look at global examples and seek to extract lessons on how to manage tourism in ways that create or sustain benefits for people and nature, rather than harm them.
