Advanced examination of legal frameworks governing coastal and ocean environments.
This course introduces legal and policy topics relevant to the ocean and coastal zones of the United States. Specifically, it explores the authority of different levels and agencies of government to make policies and other decisions affecting coastal regions and natural resources. It includes a survey of existing and proposed state and national legislation affecting coastal regions. Learning objectives are achieved through reading cases, group presentations and discussion, and preparing a written policy brief about an emerging marine affairs topic.
