Prof. Austin Becker and graduate students Duncan McIntosh (PhD student) and Eric Kretsch (Masters student) all presented their work at the Transportation Research Board’s Committee on the Marine Transportation System conference at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. This conference served as a forum to examine emerging and innovative technologies and practices in maritime transportation and waterways management. The conference was designed to foster partnerships between federal, state, private sector, and academic institutions with a shared interest in technological innovations and improved performance of the Marine Transportation System. Topics addressed included asset management; performance measures; innovative technologies and materials; safety and security; environmental stewardship; navigation technology; human factors; cybersecurity/cybersafety; resilience; data management; and infrastructure investment.

Eric Kretsch presented his research on “Leadership and Responsibility for Long-Term Hurricane Resilience: Port of Providence, RI” during the student honors panel.

Duncan McIntosh presented on” Toward a Comparative Index of Seaport Climate-Vulnerability.”

Austin Becker presented on “Inspiring resilience thinking for seaport systems” and moderated the panel on seaports and climate change.
