Last Thursday (Nov. 8), three recent graduates of the Marine Affairs program served on a panel at URI where they shared their experiences as MAF undergraduate students, highlighted opportunities for URI students, and talked about life after the Marine Affairs program. Julia Bancroft (BS ’15) highlighted her work as an Environmental Analyst at the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program. Evan Ridley (BA ’15 & MAMA ’17) discussed an initiative to recycle fiberglass vessels that he helped begin as a Marine Affairs student and graduate research assistant. He continues to work on this initiative as a project manager for the RI Marine Trades Association. Joe Dwyer (BS ’14 & MAMA ’16) described his work as a Coastal Management Fellow in Wisconsin before returning to RI to work for the RI Emergency Management Agency. All three panelists emphasized the importance of doing internships and working at places like the Metcalf Institute, Eating with the Ecosystem, RI Sea Grant, and the URI Coastal Fellows Program while they completed their Marine Affairs degrees. If you couldn’t make it to the panel, rest assured–these alums and others will be back again soon!
