Biography

Gary Gordon is a Senior Adjunct Professor at the University of Massachusetts Lowell where his focus is on transportation security, infrastructure protection, hazmat transportation and emergency management.  Prior to academia, Dr. Gordon was an Assistant Federal Security Director for DHS/TSA where he led its South Central Region on matters of surface transportation often in concert with the USCG, CBP and CISA and was TSA’s representative to the USCG Sector Houston-Galveston Area Maritime Security Committee.  Dr. Gordon is a retired Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army Reserve with assignments with the U.S. Transportation Command and U.S. Army port and rail units.  He is currently the District Staff Office – Emergency Management for the USCG Auxiliary’s First Northern District working with Sectors Boston, Southeastern New England and Northern New England.  He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College.  His doctoral dissertation was on intermodal maritime security.  Dr. Gordon is published on matters of transportation security, infrastructure protection and emergency management.  He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Transportation Security and is a co-author of “Intermodal Maritime Security: An Approach to Supply Chain Efficiency and Risk Mitigation”.
