Applications for the 2024 Annual Workshop for Journalists are now closed. Thank you to all who applied.
The Metcalf fellowship application package has three required parts: the 2024 fellowship application form, a resume, and two professional references. Click these links to access the forms.
Applications are submitted electronically. All application forms, resumes and references must be submitted in English; application packages in languages other than English will not be reviewed.
Metcalf Institute strives to create a diverse Fellowship cohort; journalists of color, as well as those who are LGBTQIA+ and/or are disabled, are strongly encouraged to apply.
The deadline for all materials is Monday, February 12, 2024, 5 p.m. U.S. Eastern Standard Time.
APPLICATION FORM
Applications are submitted via Google Forms, which will not save your work as you write. Applicants are strongly encouraged to view the application and create answers separately in order to complete the application in a single online session.
The application requires that you select samples of your reporting that have been published or aired by a news outlet within the past 24 months. The original date and venue of publication or broadcast must be easily identifiable. You may choose samples from different media and/or outlets. All samples must be in English or an English translation must be provided as part of the application package. Links to work samples must be fully functional and the samples must be accessible without a paywall. You may submit work samples as web links or as a PDF file.
Applicants will be able to upload their resumes as part of the application form. The resume should list all positions you have held as a professional journalist, including freelance work. The application form is not considered complete without a resume.
Any issues with completing or submitting the application form or work samples should be reported to metcalf@uri.edu immediately and sufficiently prior to the deadline.
REFERENCES
Applicants must direct the authors of two professional references to the 2024 Metcalf fellowship Reference Form. These two people should be able to evaluate the potential impacts of the Metcalf fellowship on your work and your news audience(s). One reference form must be completed by your current immediate supervisor or, for freelancers, an editor who has most recently worked with you.
Your professional references must be completed by Monday, February 12, 2024, 5 p.m. U.S. Eastern, for your application to be considered for a fellowship.
