Frequently Asked Questions

Summer Orientation 2024

Is graduation a prerequisite for attending orientation?
No! You can select the session that best fits your schedule, even if it is before your high school graduation ceremony. If you attend a session during school hours, we can provide an excused absence form for you to give to your high school.

Do I have to come to the first few orientation sessions to have the best selection of classes?
No. Students who attend later orientation sessions have the same opportunity to choose courses as those who attend earlier sessions.

What if my preferred session is at capacity?
We suggest seeking an alternative session to attend. We have ample capacity available across all sessions, ensuring that students can enjoy an outstanding experience within the program alongside fellow new students while meeting with their academic advisor.

What if I can’t make any of the sessions offered?
Orientation is a mandatory event for incoming first-year students. If you are unable to travel to Kingston for orientation, please fill out this form (coming soon) to request an excused absence.

What if I am not sure what I want to major in?
No problem! We encourage you to meet with advisors in the area that most interests you. If undecided, you will meet with advisors who specialize in working with undeclared students.

What about Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) scores?
AP and IB scores are discussed at Orientation in one-on-one appointments with your advisor. We understand that your most recent scores may not be available at this time. Please instruct the College Board to send your scores to URI.

Can I leave early?
The orientation program is a two-day, overnight stay that ends at 3 p.m. on the second day. Students are required to stay for the full duration of the program.

How can I change my scheduled session?
Just log back into the online registration system. You can make changes up to 72 hours before your session begins.
