My name is Raquel Mendez I am a Junior at the University of Rhode Island majoring in Political Science with a focus in International Relations and Communication Studies, minoring in French and Leadership Studies while completing the Honors Program with a focus on Nonviolence & Peace Studies. I am working on being a part of the Peace Corps. Therefore, I am seeking nonviolence training in order to gain more hands on experience and understanding on how I can utilize these tools in my academic fields. I do plan to work in Latin America and the Caribbean. I believe that this program will help me develop skills on how to be a social agent and make social change.

I am a member of the Central Falls Second Step Nonviolence Prevention Team that teaches social and emotional skills to Kindergarten children every week, Spring 2015. This is part of a Center for Nonviolence & Peace Studies initiative.
