About:
She may hail from a tiny state, but she has a big vision. Lauren has made it her mission to make the world a more compassionate place for individuals grieving the illness or death of a loved one, and communities experiencing collective grief.
Through the use of movement, technology, art, and education, she is working to bridge what she perceives to be a “Global Grief Gap.” While at URI, she has served as a peer support group facilitator at Friends Way, founded a chapter of Students of AMF at URI, launched a small social enterprise and co-created the Posts4Peace initiative with fellow trainees. Through her own exploration of creating peace of mind, Lauren is developing the skills necessary to be a peaceful promoter of health, mental wellness, nonviolence, and social justice.
Her dream is to build an international corps of trained grief facilitators who can bring cutting edge research and tools back to their community in a culturally relevant and respectful way so that nobody is left feeling unsupported in the wake of illness, loss, trauma, or violence. Kingian nonviolence is a critical component of such an endeavor. Teaching people how to avoid internal violence of the spirit as well as external physical violence is Lauren’s call to action.
