About:
Toe is an American trained lawyer, with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree in Law from the Massachusetts School of Law in the United States; and a Certificate in Negotiation & Dispute Resolution from Harvard Law School. He also holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Sustainable International Development from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University in Massachusetts; and another Master of Arts (MA) in Conflict and Coexistence from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University – all from the United States. To his credit, he earned an Associate degree in Maritime Studies (Nautical Science) from the Regional Maritime Academy in Accra, Ghana. He also has a certificate in Nonviolence from the University of Rhode Island in the United States, and a certificate in Media Advocacy from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts (BA) magna cum in Political Science and Economics from the University of Liberia; and is a graduate of the Cathedral Catholic High School in Monrovia.
J. Aloysius Toe is a human rights activist of long standing. He is a 2005 Reebok International Human Rights award winner, and CNN “Person of the Month” in April 2005.
Toe founded and headed the Foundation for Human Rights and Democracy (FOHRD), and served as Project Officer of the Dutch Section of Amnesty International Special Program on Africa (SPA). He also served on the Board of the International Human Rights Internship Program at the Institute of International Education in Washington D.C.. For 12 years, Toe served as Consultant for the Norwegian Human Rights Fund based in Oslo, Norway.
Recently, Toe served as National Legal Consultant at the United Nations Development Programm (UNDP), and now is Program Officer for Africa at the International Budget Partnership based in Washington DC.
