YWCA Greenwich, CT, will honor URI Certified Level 3 Nonviolence Trainer, Connie Blunden with a 2019 YWCA “Women Who Inspire” Award on Friday, November 8th at 11:30 AM at Greenwich Country Club.
The Women Who Inspire Awards raises funds to support the YWCA’s many programs and services, including girls’ empowerment.
Congratulations, Connie – you are most deserving!
In 2017 Connie immediately put her Kingian strategies and principles to work. She launched a new Center for Public Purpose at her Greenwich Academy School in Connecticut, the first school-based Center of its kind founded upon the principles of Kingian nonviolence. Her work there has served as an exemplar to other educators and school systems around the country.
In June 2018 at the 20th International Nonviolence Summer Institute, Connie was honored for institutionalizing nonviolence by establishing the Center for Public Purpose as well as infusing nonviolence into the lives of students through field trips to various civil rights sites in Alabama and Mississippi.
In October 2019, Connie took a group of students to Chicago for an incredible experience. They visited the South Side Community Arts Center, served lunch at a shelter, learned about the history of public housing and had an extraordinary visit at Operation PUSH (People United to Serve Humanity) which has been one of the most important social justice organizations in the United States since 1971.
Connie expresses gratitude that several years ago she became part of the Nonviolence community, which has revolutionized the way she teaches and lives.
