Nonviolent Communication: Building Bridges Across Differences

Kristine has been teaching Communication at URI for 20 years. She is a certified level 1 trainer in Kingian Nonviolence Conflict Reconciliation. She integrates this philosophy into her teaching. Words used as weapons of violence do not serve us. The pathway to peace and reconciliation begins with a dialogue driven by compassion and understanding.

Nonviolent communication is the practice of learning how to interact in ways that strengthen our ability to remain compassionate, even under the most challenging circumstances. How can we stay connected to ourselves and others in the midst of difference and discord? It is under these circumstances that we need most to connect with our compassionate nature yet it is these circumstances that make it challenging to do so. In this talk, we will learn ways of focusing our attention that can begin to liberate us from destructive patterns of relating.
