Dr. Thupten Tendhar receives the Martin Luther King Peacemaker Award

The Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies congratulates our staff Dr. Thupten Tendhar on receiving the MLK Peacemaker Award.

The Chaplains Association at the University of Rhode Island honored Dr. Tendhar with the Dr. Martin Luther Kings, Jr. Peacemaker Award at the annual MLK Jr. Unity Luncheon on February 1, 2023, at the Multicultural Students Services Center. Amy Olson, the current president of the URI Chaplains Association, presented the award to Dr. Tendhar amid loud applause by the houseful attendees of students, staff, and faculty from different departments.

The announcement described Dr. Tendhar as a quiet advocate for well-being who walks the walk of nonviolence and teaches inner peace, social justice, and mindfulness to URI students and international practitioners. He was admired as an embodiment of Dr. King’s aspiration to dedicate his life to creating a better world. Again, congratulations to Dr. Tendhar on this award!
