Roberta Opara

Biography

Level 2.5 Kingian Nonviolence trainer. As a lawyer and communications professional from Nigeria, I am grateful for the opportunity to heighten process understanding for reconciliation through alternate dispute resolution channels. Working as a Law Researcher for the Constitutional Court in South Africa I grew to appreciate the strength of constitutional protection of human rights and a stable supportive justice system, as a bedrock for a better peaceful society. I am currently completing a Master’s in Human Resources at URI; having received a Master’s Degree in Communications Studies and teaching Organizational Behavior in the College of Business at URI, I believe in the impact of nonviolence communication on the strengthening of individual leadership in the engagement and development of positive change. Ours is a society that can change nonviolently.

During the upcoming academic year, Roberta will be engaged in co-training and instructional responsibilities for the Center’s NVP courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as additional nonviolence and peace training workshops across the URI campus and beyond. Also she will be involved in various research, evaluation, and writing projects.
