This scholarship, established by Hilary Stookey, a Kingian Nonviolence Trainer from Summer Institute 2014, honors participants of the International Nonviolence Summer Institute who have demonstrated leadership potential and active involvement in issues of peace and nonviolence in their home communities or on a global level. Hilary and David Stookey established this scholarship in 2015.

About:
Mohammed is an Assistant Professor of Botany in the Higher Education Department of Jammu & Kashmir Government, India, informally engaged in a variety of works as a Human Rights Activist, Freelance Journalist, and Peace Worker. He founded the NGO, Attitude Change International (www.attitudechange.org) which promotes peace education. Currently campaigning for an introduction of peace education in Jammu and Kashmir. The promotion of UN SDG’s is another priority for Mohammed these days.
2017 Recipient – Jean de Dieu Alingwi, (Democratic Republic of Congo)

A peacebuilding and conflict transformation professional and practitioner with 5 years experience working with Radio La benevolencija in the eastern DR Congo, including action-centered research and design and oversight of programs related to intercommunal dialogue, reconciliation, social healing, local governance and democracy and justice and facilitating workshops dialogues and round table and the use of communication tools to reach out the grassroots groups. – (From Jean’s LinkedIn)
2016 Recipient – Aheli Moitra, (Nagaland, India)
About:
Aheli is a journalist working with The Morung Express, a newspaper run by the Naga people in the North East of India. She has been working on issues of human rights since 2008. Since 2011, her primary focus has been on the effect of violence in the Naga areas of Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, and Burma (Myanmar). Following
seven decades of militarization of the region, her newspaper seeks to create a platform for nonviolent social change in the region. Aheli and her teammates seek to bring together diverse voices of unrepresented peoples from far-flung areas, creating a habitat for reconciliation and JustPeace.
2015 Recipient – Gulafroz Rezei, (Afghanistan)
About:
Gulafroz was a participant in the 2015 Summer Institute Nonviolence Training. Here, at the University of Rhode Island, she earned her Level I Certificate. After completing her Level I Training, she went on to Florida International University (FIU) and completed her Master’s. She received her Master’s of Science in International and Intercultural Education in 2018.
