The Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies was honored to host the Monks of Gaden Shartse Dokhang Monastery for a dinner of love, compassion, and four noble truths on Friday, September 5th, 2014, as a part of their US Compassion Tour.
The authentic Tibetan food for the dinner was prepared by URI’s Tibetan Geshe Thupten Tendhar, a PhD candidate and administrative assistant with the Center. The delicious dal made the monks feel right at home.
After the dinner students askED the Monks for their words of wisdom about varied topics, such as, “What can we do to handle stress,” and “How can we find happiness.”
“Students should remember to always give support to each other. Motivation is very important and has a positive effect for everyone’s learning. Working together and being compassionate is an necessary part of being a community,” said Venerable Geshe Lobsang Chophel, one of the monks on the tour.
These words were taken to heart by the students and were the reasons why the dinner was so cherished by all of those in attendance.
