Biography
Lisa DeProspo Philo has worked as a communications specialist for the University of Rhode Island’s NEMO Program since 2004 and as a program evaluator for the Metcalf Institute from 2019-2023. The diplomas that she keeps meaning to frame but are now probably yellowing and moth-ridden are: a bachelor’s degree in science communication from Cornell University and a master’s degree in environmental and natural resource economics from URI. Her research has meandered from the economics of water resources and economic evaluation of land use, to the communication of environmental issues including climate change, land use, stormwater pollution, and source water protection. For about half a decade, Lisa also taught introductory micro-, macro-, and environmental economics to those willing to take an 8:00 am course at URI. Lisa directed the overhaul of websites which act as a warehouse of information about water pollution and solutions and has crafted numerous outreach strategies and materials on the topics of wastewater and stormwater.
