Dr. Agbemafle is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition. Before starting at URI in 2023, he was a lecturer at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (2014-2023) in Ghana. After completing his master’s degree, he was an NIH Visiting Fogarty Scholar at the University of California, Davis working in the USDA Western Human Nutrition Research Lab. He received his PhD in Human Nutrition and Statistics from Iowa State University and returned to UC Davis for his postdoctoral training working on research projects in Africa (Ghana and Ethiopia).

Dr. Agbemafle is currently a co-investigator on a double salt fortification trial with iodine and folic acid in Ethiopia funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Nutrition International. His research focusses on dietary analysis and diet modelling, nutrition intervention designs and evaluation.

Dr. Agbemafle has received several awards including the Presidential Research Excellence Award from Iowa State University and the D.R. Griffiths Research Excellence Award from the Nutritional Sciences Council, Iowa State University. He was also named a finalist in the 2020 American Society for Nutrition Emerging Leaders Competition.

Dr. Agbemafle’s research aims to improve our understanding of precision nutrition using different sustainable dietary innovation models. Specifically, Dr. Agbemafle’s lab uses computer simulations to formulate sustainable diets and test its impact on various nutritional outcomes in humans.
