By the time you graduate from URI with a B.A. in Philosophy, you will be able:
- To evaluate formal and informal reasoning, distinguishing valid from invalid arguments, strong from weak arguments, and plausible from implausible premises.
- To read and interpret philosophical texts, accurately conveying their philosophical ideas and concisely summarizing how those ideas are established, supported and defended.
- To contextualize philosophical texts and thinkers within specific frameworks (e.g., those of history, method, topic, problem area, etc.)
- To produce a critical, summative project or paper that identifies a focal question, surveys existing primary and secondary material of relevance to the question, engages a consistent and sustained method for analyzing both primary and secondary material, and offers a justified perspective on the question.
