Campus Master Plans

The year 2000 Campus Master Plan has served the Kingston Campus at the University of Rhode Island well over the years and has provided design guidelines and policies for current and future development of the University’s buildings, grounds, and infrastructure.

The Narragansett Bay Campus Master Plan was commissioned by the University of Rhode Island in 2015, completing in August 2016, to assess the current conditions of the entire Bay Campus and to provide a strategic plan for campus renewal that will serve the University and the State of Rhode Island for many years to come.

The Transportation & Parking Master Plan establishes a strategy for campus growth while enhancing mobility, efficiency, and sustainability. The plan offers both short and long-term recommendations to form an efficient and regionally connected transportation system.

The Landscape Master Plan, completed in 2017, analyzes the current condition of the campus landscape with consideration of the University’s mission and the Strategic Plan for Campus Sustainability for Climate Action. The Plan ensures consistent standards for landscape elements that are needed to create a more inviting, unified, and aesthetically pleasing campus. It incorporates gateways to the University, traffic flow, and transportation corridors. It is coordinated with the Transportation & Parking Master Plan.

The Stormwater Master Plan, updated February of 2018, assists the University with policies, planning, and decision making as it relates to associated projects, stormwater management, and the protection of the natural resources on the Kingston Campus.

URI through implementation, teaching, research, and outreach is committed to making the campus and our society more sustainable. The 2017 Campus Sustainability Strategic Plan is a governing approach to the many green initiatives with which the University is engaged.
