Admission

Standard Program Requirements

For Incoming First-Year Students

  • Cumulative High School GPA of 3.2 or above
  • Formally enrolled or on track to enroll as a language major in one of approved language majors:  Chinese, French, Spanish, German, Italian, or Global Language and Area Studies with a concentration in Arabic or Japanese

For Current URI Students

  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Formally enrolled or on track to enroll as a language major in one of approved language majors: French, Spanish, German, Italian, or Chinese, or Global Language and Area Studies with a concentration in Arabic or Japanese.
  • Received a C+ or above in PSC 116G – Introduction to International Politics
  • Approval from the Section Head of language major or Department Chair of Languages verifying that student is at the appropriate proficiency benchmark in order to achieve the language proficiency requirement upon completion of the program.
  • We do not recommend the program unless existing students have at least three years remaining in their URI careers.

 

Five-Year Program (B.A./M.A.) Requirements

  • Only existing ISD students may apply for this track
    • Non-eligible ISD students or non-ISD students may still apply to the MA in International Relations using that program’s normal application process
  • Application submitted second semester of Junior year
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or above
  • International Studies major GPA 3.3 or above
