The Gender and the Security Sector Lab at the Department of Government at Cornell University sponsors an internship program for University of Rhode Island students that allows student interns to work with faculty members from Cornell University on their research projects. Typical assignments include conducting research, writing short reports, data collection, editing and fact-checking papers, and compiling bibliographies.
This unpaid internship program provides students with a chance to work on significant issues in national security and strategic studies. Students may receive up to 6 hours of academic credit (Pass/Fail) by enrolling in PSC 375 or 376. Students working 100 hours may receive 3 credits; those working 130 hours or more may receive 4 credits.
This internship is open to both advanced undergraduate and graduate students.
Hours and Credits:
- Students receive a maximum of 6 credit hours by enrolling in PSC 375 and PSC 376.
- Students need to complete 100 hours to receive 3 credits.
- Students earn PASS/FAIL credit for their field experience.

Student Requirements:
- Political Science Major, International Studies Major, or International Relations minor
- Overall GPA: 3.0 or higher
- PSC GPA: 3.2 or higher
- Minimum of 60 overall credits
- At least one 300-level or above course in International Relations

Assessment:
- Portfolio of work completed
- A short paper evaluating your experience in the internship program sent to Professor Izadi at the end of the term.
- A report detailing your reactions to the internship program to be given to Internship Coordinators.
