M.P.A. Program

street view of URI providence campusThe Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) program draws from a rich and rigorous curriculum, combined with experiential education, that will prepare you to be a leader in public policy and administration. Our mission is to instill public service values, knowledge and expertise to prepare you to solve problems related to governance and policy with integrity, professionalism, and excellence to improve our communities and society.

As an M.P.A. student, you will learn the most current administrative theory and practice for the public and nonprofit sectors. The program is designed to meet your individual interests, offering opportunities to earn graduate certificates in specialized programs related to public policymaking and administration such as cyber security, human resource administration, non-profit studies, labor studies, healthcare management and community planning.

Our students have been placed at a wide variety of internships at municipal, state and federal agencies, legislative offices, healthcare institutions, advocacy organizations and foundations. The MPA Program also works cooperatively with Rhode Island College’s Certificate Program in International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGO).

You can participate in the program either part-time or full-time, whether you are a professional, traditional, or non-traditional student, and you’ll be able to take full advantage of our late afternoon and evening course offerings.

The program is jointly administered by the University of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College, and is conveniently offered in the vibrant downtown of Providence at URI’s Feinstein Providence Campus. Our location in the capitol city of Providence ensures that you will be exposed to the inner workings of Rhode Island city administration and state government, while also providing an intellectual environment for you to pursue your scholarly interests.

The core curriculum conforms to the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA) guidelines.
