Steven Mello

Biography

As Vice Provost for Academic Resource Management Steven Mello leads strategic resource planning across Academic Affairs, including financial management, labor relations, academic space allocation, and implementation of the University’s activity-based budget model, working closely with the provost, academic deans, and administrative leaders.

Steven came to URI from Tufts University, where he served as executive administrative director of the Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging. In that role, he acted as chief operating and financial officer for a $22 million biomedical research institute, overseeing budget and finance, research administration and compliance, human resources, organizational effectiveness, and facilities operations. His prior experience includes leadership roles at Yale University and Columbia University, as well as serving as managing principal of Wooster Square Consulting, LLC.

Mello holds an MBA in leadership and finance from Columbia Business School, a master’s degree in vocal performance and opera from the Manhattan School of Music, and a bachelor’s degree in music from Yale University.
