Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) / Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Psychology
Curriculum
Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology must complete at least thirty-two (32) credits in the major. Students must first
complete the prerequisite courses: PSY 113 (C or better), PSY 200 (C or better), and two courses from the following: PSY 232, PSY 235,
PSY 254 (average of C or better). Students pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology must complete at least forty-one (41)
credits in the major. Students on the BS track must complete the following prerequisite courses: PSY 113, 232, 260 and a quantitative
methods course (PSY 200, STA 307 or 308). Students must have a C or better in each course. To strengthen their knowledge in
Psychology, an experiential learning (research, community placement, teaching assistant, etc.) course is required for BA and BS
students. Below is a listing of additional major requirements for the BA and BS tracks including GPA requirements.
Students must also satisfy general education requirements and earn a total of 120 credits to graduate. Psychology students can pursue
a second major, minors, internships, and/or study abroad opportunities by using “free elective” credits. If a Psychology BS student
wishes to pursue medicine, occupational therapy or another health profession after graduation, it is important to meet with a Pre Health
advisor (https://web.uri.edu/prehealth) as early as possible. Likewise, we encourage students to meet with the Pre Law advisor if
considering a career in Law. The Psychology Department is invested in each student’s academic and career success and wants the
student to be in the best position when the student graduates.
