Biography

I earned my PhD in Positive Developmental Psychology from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, CA (2017). My area of interests include lifespan development and positive contexts for thriving, parenting and family as positive contexts, and the role of movement and nature exposure for well-being across the lifespan.

My research in the past has focused on exercise and nature as contributors to well-being, specifically for emerging adults. I have co-authored a book about running and the flow experience (Running Flow, Human Kinetics), and also co-authored a textbook chapter on the role parents, personality, and coaching play in the development of fear of failure in young athletes (more importantly, how to avoid cultivating this fear).

In the past few years, I have focused more on my love of teaching and mentoring students, and am thrilled to join URI and their commitment to excellence in teaching coupled with our shared commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice.

Personally, I am the mother of four grown children who live in Boston, New York City, Chicago, and Colorado Springs. My husband is a school psychologist in the Pasadena, California area. I enjoy spending my free time meditating, hiking, trail running, and generally in nature, especially with my ‘pandemic puppy’, Gussie.
