Exceptional University of Rhode Island undergraduate students are eligible to apply for the Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master of Public Health program (ABMPH) as a path to earn an MPH degree. Students admitted to the ABMPH program will have the opportunity to save time and money by applying up to 4 URI undergraduate courses toward the MPH. These course credits will count toward both the student’s undergraduate degree at URI and the MPH degree (i.e., dual credit).
The MPH program is designed for students with a passion for public health and a drive to obtain the knowledge and skills to address current and future public health challenges. Graduates of this program will be prepared to promote health equity and reduce health disparities locally, nationally, and globally. While this may appeal to undergraduates focused on the field of health sciences, any undergraduate major at URI is eligible to apply.
Applicants to the ABMPH must have the following:
- A current, cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher
- Earned a minimum of 75 credits toward their undergraduate degree
- Taken and received a grade of B (or better) in HLT 101G and PSY 200 or STA 307 or STA308 (or comparable)
- A personal statement describing why the student is applying to the ABMPH and how an MPH will support future professional and/or academic goals
Please note that the qualifications listed above are the minimum requirements and do not guarantee admission to the ABMPH program. Students will be enrolled in the ABMPH only after they have met the Graduate School admission requirements. Only students accepted into the ABMPH program will be able to double-count credits toward both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The courses to be double counted will be discussed with and approved by both the Director of the MPH program and the applicant’s undergraduate academic advisor during the admission process. Only credits earned at URI may be counted toward the MPH.
