TIP TUESDAY – Office of Sponsored Projects – Guidance for Establishing Data Use Agreements (DUAs)

Researchers enter into Data Use Agreements (DUAs) to establish the terms of the transfer of data into and out of the institution. Extra protection is needed for some types of data, such as data from human subjects, data subject to HIPAA or FERPA regulations, and export-controlled data. Refer to the Federal Demonstration Partnership FDP Data Transfer and Use Agreement Templates for examples of the contents of a DUA.

Need help figuring it out?

Check out the Division of Research and Economic Development’s DRED flow chart to see when a DUA is needed and review the FDP templates for examples! Please contact Research Integrity, researchintegrity@uri.edu if you have any questions and when you’re ready to initiate a DUA.

Visit the Office of Research Integrity website for more information.
