Dr. Bongsup Cho is the Program Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-sponsored biomedical infrastructure program grant RI-INBRE (Rhode Island IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence). He previously served as the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in the University of Rhode Island’s (URI) College of Pharmacy. Dr. Cho received his Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry from the University of Illinois Medical Center and postdoctoral training from the University of Chicago Ben May Cancer Center and the FDA. As a chemical and structural biologist, medicinal chemist, and cancer expert, he investigates the structure-function relationship of DNA damage and the molecular mechanisms underlying the protein-DNA interactions involved in DNA repair and replication. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and American Cancer Society have been primary supporters of his research. He publishes extensively on cancer and chemical carcinogenesis and presents at national and international conferences. In addition, Dr. Cho has served as a grant reviewer for various federal and private funding agencies, including permanent membership in the NIH Cancer Etiology Study Section. A mentor to many undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, Dr. Cho is passionate about using 3D technologies to facilitate student learning of drug actions. As the director of URI’s 3D Facility for Teaching Animation and Printing, he has secured several grants to support his innovative teaching activities.
