Investigator Focus:  Dr. Victoria L. Templer

Dr. Victoria L. Templer, Associate Professor of Psychology and newly appointed director of Neuroscience, was awarded Providence College’s 2022 Outstanding Faculty Scholar Award! The honor is bestowed to a tenured faculty member demonstrating the highest standards in research, scholarship, and contributions in their field.

Dr. Templer, a behavioral neuroscientist specializing in comparative cognition, uses nonhuman animals to study memory and learning functions in normal and abnormal human brains to target future biomedical treatments.

Templer began her research with RI-INBRE as an Assistant Professor in 2014 with a Proposal Development Pilot award. She humbly shared that she has eight peer-reviewed publications resulting from her RI-INBRE support (’14, Pilot, 15-21 ECD, CR, PD). During this time, she mentored twenty-five students and one Postdoctoral Fellow, many of them as co-authors on her manuscripts and international conference presentations. As of the summer of 2022, Dr. Templer had received seven external grants, totaling over one million dollars and her research was featured on National Public Radio.
