Research: I focus on interactions between bacteria and a group of phytoplankton called diatoms. Bacteria associated with diatoms may help alleviate nutrient stress. Recently, I examined these relationships onboard a cruise to the Southern Ocean, a region with varying concentrations of iron which is an essential micronutrient for diatoms.
