We have been developing and applying modeling methods to simulate the growth of microorganisms under different environmental conditions. Using a method called Thermodynamics-Based Metabolic Flux Analysis, we are able to incorporate temperature, thermodynamic feasibility of reactions, and metabolite concentrations into simulations of bacterial growth. Our goal is to further develop these methods so that they can be more broadly applied to key organisms in the Narragansett Bay ecosystem.
