Laura Holland

I am a postdoctoral research fellow working on using metatranscriptomics to establish a baseline understanding of microzooplankton grazing in the field. Specifically, I am involved in the NASA EXPORTS project (oceanexports.org). The goals of my project are to connect microzooplankton grazer gene expression with in situ observations and to determine a set of gene markers that can inform us about grazing rates in the North Pacific and Atlantic. Prior to my postdoc, I completed my PhD in Biological and Environmental Sciences at URI, focusing on using molecular techniques to study the biogeography and iron stress response of Southern Ocean diatoms. In my free time, I enjoy baking, swimming, playing video games, and watching football and hockey.
