Biography

Madi examines phytoplankton net primary productivity and accompanying ocean metrics as part of the Northeast US Shelf Long-term Ecological Research project (NES-LTER). Broadly, she is interested in characterizing trophic energy flow in a seasonally volatile ocean shelf ecosystem and thinking about how these systems change with conditions over time. Previously, Madi worked as a fisheries observer in the Bering Sea, where she gained extensive at-sea experience. She earned her BS in Marine Biology from UC Santa Cruz, where she worked on a variety of projects studying fish behavior, soil biogeochemistry, and, most notably, elephant seal cohort dynamics. In her free time, she enjoys reading, crocheting, swimming, and occasionally SCUBA diving.
