The Society for Women in Marine Science brings together marine scientists of all career levels to discuss the diverse experiences of women in marine science, celebrate the research done by women in the field, and promote the visibility of women in the marine science community. SWMS aims to create spaces where women can bring their full selves to the table. In 2020, SWMS successfully earned status as a full 501(c)3 non-profit. Rynearson Lab postdoc, Tricia Thibodeau, is currently the Vice President of this international organization. Learn more about SWMS here.
There is a SWMS chapter at URI that members of the Rynearson Lab participate in. Learn more about them here. Recently, URI SWMS sponsored a virtual symposium with over 500 participants from around the world. Lab member, Diana Fontaine, was one of the lead organizers for this event.
