Each fall, over 500 4th through 12th grade SMILE students are engaged in hands-on engineering curricula. While each level has different, age-appropriate activities, the focus of all of them is to allow the students to feel like engineers by using the engineering design process throughout the semester.
Students are exposed to several engineering disciplines and career options along the way: from structural and mechanical to electrical and chemical. The young engineers are challenged to ask what the problem is, imagine some solutions, plan a design and materials list, create their design, and improve it, whether it was a failure or a success!
