Biography

Dr. Alan M. Vajda and has investigated reproductive disruption in fish exposed to environmental contaminants in North America and in Australia, novel adverse behavioral impacts, transgenerational effects on survival, fecundity, and population growth, and mechanisms underlying population collapse following exposure to WWTP contaminants, as well as the recovery of fish reproductive health following a major investment in WWTP infrastructure.  Additionally, Dr. Vajda has contributed to projects elucidating the tissue disposition of neuroactive contaminants, the impact of contaminants on the fish gut microbiome, and the impact of infrastructure upgrades on contaminant fate in the urban water cycle. Dr. Vajda’s work integrates complex field and laboratory chemical and biological approaches to evaluate contaminant effects across multiple levels of biological organization.  These studies provide transferable methods and models for the integrated hydrologic, chemical, and biological evaluation on the contribution of infrastructure and other best management practices on environmental sustainability.
