Dr. Bongsup Cho is a professor in the URI College of Pharmacy and his research focus is on cancer specifically the mechanisms underlying the protein-DNA interactions involved in DNA repair and mutation. He has published extensively and served as a permanent member in the NIH Cancer Etiology Study Section. His research has been supported primarily by funds from the NIH and American Cancer Society. Cho has served as the Associate Dean for Research for the College of Pharmacy. He is the Principal Investigator/Program Director the NIH RI-INBRE (Rhode Island IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence program (https://web.uri.edu/inbre/; P20 GM103430), which provides research infrastructure and student training support to higher educations in RI.
As the Training Core Lead, Cho helps trainees secure opportunities to explore the interdisciplinary nature of our STEEP program on emerging contaminants and encourages them to develop their own professional career in the environmental and/or biomedical sciences. Our STEEP trainees are expected to be versed in their own specific area of expertise; to that end, they will be exposed to cutting-edge techniques of detection, transport and fate, and biomedical and epidemiological sciences; and will develop skills for effectively communicating issues relating to community, and environmental regulation.
