The First-Year Seminar is a 13-week course facilitated by a university faculty or staff member along with a student mentor during a student’s first semester. Through small class sizes and hands-on activities, the course promotes self-exploration, active engagement, and a strong understanding of life as a college student.

The curriculum is centered around four key learning outcomes:

Develop a sense of belonging within an inclusive campus living and learning community, as well as within your major and academic college and practice respectful engagement with peers from all backgrounds.
Identify and utilize university and academic resources to grow as an independent and collaborative learner within the campus community.
Learn about and actively engage in co-curricular opportunities.
Gain a deeper understanding of curriculum pathways and course options through academic advising. All learning experiences are designed to support equity, accessibility, and inclusive participation.
