URI has initiated profiles of URI Alumni, Faculty, Staff and Students as part of its Web Based Big Thinkers Series. One of the first is Talent Development Alumna Jessica Adefusika.

Jessica Adefusika

The biggest challenge of Jessica Adefusika’s college career was deciding which medical school to attend—from among the six that wanted her. She chose the world-renowned Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota, where she’s now working on her medical degree, and credits URI for launching her journey there. “I enjoyed my experiences at URI and am proud to say that they got me where I am today.”

Jessica came to URI through the Talent Development program, which helps students from disadvantaged backgrounds attend college. She qualified for the Honors Program, landed a yearlong internship at Rhode Island Hospital, and changed majors three times until she found one that blended her love for science and people.
