Spring 2015 All TD Meeting

All TD Meeting for First, Second, and Third- Year Students

On Wednesday, February 4, 2015, Talent Development held the All TD Meeting for Spring 2015, and Edwards Auditorium was full with TD Nation students, staff, and administration. Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Thomas R. Dougan, greeted all the students and congratulated the first-year students on their success to this point; he also encouraged second and third-year students to continue with their hard work. He then mentioned several on campus events that he hoped TD students would participate in such as the Race, Violence and Democracy Colloquium featuring former Black Panther, Bobby Seale, on Thursday, February 26, 2015.

Assistant Director, Frank Forleo, then made several announcements including the acknowledgement of Black History Month, the introduction of the members of the TD Student Advisory Council (SAC), and a reminder to students to submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Frank also encouraged students to follow TD on social media: Twitter (twitter@tdnation68), Facebook (University of Rhode Island’s Talent Development Program), LinkedIn (URI Talent Development), and Instagram (tdnation68). Next, Frank discussed Talent Development Admissions, which is underway. He anticipates the acceptance of approximately 600 students for TD Summer Program 2015.

Frank also talked about the importance of campus and community involvement. He invited students to participate in TD Summit 2015: College Connection by mentoring a high school senior from College Crusade, College Visions, Educational Talent Search, and SMILE. Interest students may contact Jihan Minikon (jminikon@mail.uri.edu) or Wynston Wilson (wwilson@uri.edu). He also invited students to attend the Race, Violence and Democracy Colloquium on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 6:00 pm in the Thomas Ryan Family Auditorium (120 Flagg Road, Kingston, RI).

Frank congratulated the 181 students who earned Dean’s List. He noted that this number has nearly doubled in the past five years. The Assistant Director spoke about the responsibilities of all students in the program and the standard that they must adhere to to remain in good academic standing. The failure to do so could result in the suspension of the Hardge/Forleo Grant or College Crusade Grant.
TD Director Gerald Williams then gave his remarks. Mr. Gee welcomed back all students and informed them that the academic and enrollment standards are rising for TD, and that they represent TD wherever they go. He urged students to take advantage of all opportunities because they lead to other opportunities, and to “do better than what you have done in the past.”
“Handle your business…”
