Our International Engineering Program is the nation’s most distinctive way to prepare engineers for the global marketplace, boasting a very high job placement for graduates. During the course of five years, IEP students earn two degrees simultaneously: a B.S. in an engineering discipline and a B.A. in German, Spanish, French, Italian or Chinese. In the fourth year of the program students spend a year abroad, where they study for six months at a partner University then hold a paid internship at a global engineering firm for the remainder of the year. Our students have interned at companies such as BMW, Hasbro, Kraft Foods and Siemens and often receive employment offers from their host companies.

We provide a dynamic living experience. One of our most highly acclaimed initiatives is our Engineering Living Learning Community (ELLC) where freshman engineering students live and learn together. This unique engaging experience provides strong academic and social support networks – a place where students feel right at home and part of our College of Engineering community of scholars right from the day they move in.

We are the largest university within the nation’s smallest state; but with 13,500 undergraduates and 2,300 graduate students, the University of Rhode Island is small enough to be friendly, intimate, safe and student-centered. The University is perfectly located seven miles from Rhode Island’s coastal beaches. The campus is within easy driving distance from Providence, Boston and New York. Approximately 80% of our engineering undergraduates have at least one paid engineering internship experience, with many students having more. The variety of these experiences include internship positions internationally, locally, out of state, and in URI engineering research laboratories.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates the number of engineers will rise by 10 percent by 2020, making engineering one of the fastest growing occupations in the United States. All five most lucrative majors for Generation Y are in engineering fields, according to PayScale.Forbes magazine says “competition for new science, technology, engineering and math talent is steep. That means while other recent grads fight for jobs, these students will likely field multiple offers.”
