Biography

Dr. Rebecca Carley is a nationally certified nurse practitioner with a specialty in primary care nursing.  She is the Specialty Coordinator for the Adult-Gerontological Nurse Practitioner concentration.  Dr. Carley brings a wide range of clinical experience to her teaching including adult and women’s health care, occupational health, primary prevention/health promotion, and health care for people who are homeless and those who are medically underserved.  She is a longtime champion for improving health care for the homeless, initially volunteering on the Crossroads Rhode Island (previously Travelers Aid) Medical Van, that provides care to the homeless shelter residents, and more recently at the primary care provider in the Women’s Clinic at Crossroads Rhode Island.  Dr. Carley currently precepts students in the clinical area at Crossroads Rhode Island and at the Rhode Island Free Clinic.

Dr. Carley is a member of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty and is a founding member and current board member of the Nurse Practitioner Alliance of Rhode Island.  She has worked with other nurse practitioners to pass legislation that allows nurse practitioners to function at the highest level of their scope of practice.  She is the recipient of the Outstanding Volunteer Award from the Travelers Aid Society of Rhode Island and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners-Rhode Island-Award for Excellence.
