Mission Statement

The Department of Pharmacy Practice inspires and educates current and future pharmacists and pharmacy researchers, innovates teaching methods and clinical practice, and conducts research that improves the health of the people of Rhode Island and beyond.

In addition to our commitment to quality teaching, scholarship and public engagement, we focus our efforts to:

  • Lead the University in advancing interprofessional education with pre-licensure student providers
  • Increase departmental engagement with state/regional pharmacy practitioners and organizations to advance patient care
  • Strengthen departmental research and education through identifying and applying shared interests and expertise
  • Enhance departmental graduate student education and post graduate residency and fellowship programs
  • Achieve increased external funding for service and research activities that improve medication use
  • Enhance overall departmental scholarship and specifically the scholarship of teaching and assessment
  • Gain national and international recognition for excellence in teaching, research and patient care
  • Commit to have a culturally diverse faculty, staff and students who mirror the populations we serve
