Provost’s Welcome

Welcome!

As Provost at the University of Rhode Island, I serve as the University’s Chief Academic Officer. My responsibilities include providing leadership, support, energy, and innovation for all of our academic, admissions, enrollment, and support programs. As one of the newest members of the URI community, I am absolutely pleased to be here and want to express my enthusiasm for the superb work of the dedicated faculty, staff, and students who collectively define this community.

Our efforts as an academic community are ultimately about learning and discovery in the fullest sense. Our aim is to prepare ourselves and each other to be productive, responsible, and accountable global citizens with the ability and inclination to contribute to the “work of the world.” I am pleased to play a role, along with dedicated vice provosts, deans, chairs, faculty, and staff members, in advancing URI as a compelling and vibrant student-centered research university.

While our focus is especially on nurturing and teaching our students, our broader commitment is to create a community atmosphere that celebrates diversity and respect and encourages understanding and integrity. Our commitment to environmental sustainability and stewardship of this very special place adjacent to Narragansett Bay is one way that we work together to advance the human prospect.

As provost, I see my role, at least in part, as creating a state of restlessness – ensuring our academic community doesn’t become restful or complacent, but rather remains committed to innovation, creativity, and sustaining a “can do” approach to the challenges confronting us and the world.

So, if you are a prospective student, staff, or faculty member, a member of our community, or an alumna(us), friend, or parent, I ask you to become truly engaged in the work of this special university. You won’t regret it. Being part of this vital URI community will be your pathway to experiencing and changing the world.

I look forward to seeing you on campus.
