Biography

Dr. Ciesielska-Wrobel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Textiles, Fashion Merchandising and Design (TMD) at the URI. She earned her B.Sc, M.Sc., and Ph.D. in textile technology and textile manufacturing. During her bachelor’s and master’s studies, she focused on knitting, weaving, spinning, nonwoven technologies. Her Ph.D. dissertation concerned measuring the level of thermophysiological and ergonomic wear comfort in users of textiles. She taught different textiles-related classes, mainly in Poland, Belgium, France, Spain, and the United States at North Carolina State University, Wilson College of Textiles (lecture invitation from Dr. Alex Hummel). When she was doing her post-doc at Textile Protection and Comfort Center (T-PACC), she measured the influence of uniforms on firefighters’ comfort and performance. After completing her post-doc, she returned to Belgium to continue her work at Ghent University as a post-doctoral senior researcher.

Before joining the URI, Professor Ciesielska-Wrobel worked as a Research Scientist in textile product development at Luna Innovations Incorporated in Blacksburg, VA. She was a Principal Investigator of projects funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Department of Defense.

Her current interests revolve around textile technologies, especially knitting, smart textiles, perception of textiles, conversion, and processing of ocean plastic wastes, technical and protective textiles, high-performance materials, metal-organic frameworks.

She has published more than 50 referred papers and conference proceedings. She is a co-author of two patents, author of Finite Element Modeling of Textiles in Abaqus CAE (2019) and Contemporary Personal Ballistic Protection (2017). She is a beneficiary of two prestigious and competitive European grants, the Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship for Career Development (2010-2012) and the Marie Curie International Outgoing Fellowship (2014-2017).

She serves as a Vice-Editor of the Autex Research Journal.
