Biography
Michelle Aucoin is a personal finance professional. In 2018, she joined FocalPoint Financial Group Inc., an independent financial planning firm, after working as a financial advisor at a major Canadian insurance company. In her current role as a financial planner, Michelle advises professionals and business owners on various personal finance topics, including taxes, risk management, retirement, and estate planning. She also has financial analysis expertise, working with individuals who are separating or divorcing.
Michelle is passionate about building relationships. In her previous career, she held leadership roles in academia. At the University of British Columbia (UBC), she served as Managing Director of Community Engagement, where she led the university’s strategic planning process for community engagement. She also served as the Director of the UBC 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Secretariat, acting as the liaison between UBC and the 2010 Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and managing the university’s operational, academic, and community commitments as a venue host. Before that, she was Director of UBC Alumni Relations, where she enriched and implemented the alumni engagement strategy for UBC’s global alumni, and served as Director of the Office of the Vice-President for Students, overseeing portfolio initiatives, strategic planning, student consultations, issues management, and relations with the UBC Board of Governors.
Michelle also worked at the University of Victoria, where she developed and grew international student enrollment and partner relationships. Outside of the university setting, she held various finance roles on Bay Street in Toronto and was Executive Director of Business Development & Stakeholder Relations for a technology start-up.
Michelle lives in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. She is a big fan of kayaking and any activity on or near the ocean, as well as the delight that comes from traveling to new (and familiar) places. She enjoys spending time with her spouse, Chris, and their two daughters.
