Biography
Paul Bumchan Ahn, CPA has over 20 years of experience in investment profession and higher education. Since 2017, Paul has been teaching core Accounting and Finance courses for both Undergraduate and Graduate program at HULT International Business School. As a Professor of Practice, he has achieved top performance on the course evaluation of his teaching courses across all the HULT campuses of San Francisco, Boston, London, and Dubai. He also has participated in designing accounting & finance courses for new UG curriculum. Paul has created the high quality of online learning contents related to accounting & finance skill-learning materials so that students can study by themselves during the pandemic crisis. Having been known for his teaching style with the student’s perspective, he was introduced on the HULT School Blog Magazine ‘Meet Paul Ahn: my most inspirational professor’. He is an active CPA in California Board of Accountancy (CBA) and a member of California Society of CPAs, practicing investment & accounting consultation to help HULT students launch their start-up businesses.
Prior to transitioning into the teaching role, Paul was CFO of KEG Consultancy Inc. at San Francisco in charge of a renewable energy project in Nigeria and conducted financial planning and investment proposal. He also worked as a senior portfolio manager at NH Investment & Securities and Shin-Han Investment Corp. in Seoul, Korea, and managed hundreds of millions of dollars of institutional and private funds for which he was responsible for investment research, portfolio management, valuation and forecasting, financial analysis, fundraising and staff training. For 13 years, he had invested in various asset classes including global stocks & bonds, ETFs & mutual funds, ELSs, REITs, SOC infra, Ship investment, FX, Commodities, and Derivatives in global market. He was selected as the best portfolio manager of Korea in 2009 and won the best employee award from 2008 to 2011 at both investment banks.
Paul received a Bachelor of Economics & International Trade from Sejong University and a Master of Economics in Financial Engineering from Graduate School of Yonsei University at Seoul, Korea. In the US, he earned a Master of Finance and an M.B.A from HULT International Business School, where he graduated with distinction and honor for both masters’ degrees. His research interests at HULT and URI include Financial Statement Analysis, Asset Valuation and Impairment, Portfolio Management, Risk Management, Financial Reporting, Articulating & Restructuring Financial Statement information for investment decision.
He is residing in Wellesley, MA with his lovely wife and son and enjoying cooking and traveling with his family.
